About

A little about me….

Kairi Kaljo - Food Photographer

Food has always been something that I am passionate about. I love to try out new recipes, have people over for dinner and entertain. When I have time I bake cakes. Did someone say cheesecake? I’m also big into my wines and love to try out various food venues across the town.

Having dinner and drinks is my favourite way of socialising. After all, food is what brings people together.ย

I grew up in Eastern Europe and my menu as a kid was very much based on fish, black bread, potatoes and vegetables. When I was 6 I had never eaten a banana. Back in the day bananas were a real delicacy in that part of the world. Fruit often had to be imported. Luckily we had a big garden and grew our own vegetables. I used to hate the whole gardening experience when I was a kid. Funny, how growing up things change and having your own vegetable garden suddenly becomes popular.ย

I guess you can say I developed love for food when I grew up and left home. My first job was in the hotel’s kitchen and ever since I developed increased interest in food preparation and presentation. There was a time when I would watch every cooking show on tv: Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef, Come Dine With Me, Jamie Olivier and Gordon Ramsey’s cooking programs, Great British Bake Off. You name it, I watched it.

Years on, I also worked in catering for a while but never really pursued it as a career. Once I even had a dream of owning my own French style patisserie but I always stuck to organising other peoples lives instead of a career in hospitality.

Then I found photography and I knew straight away what I wanted to specilise in. I wanted to create images that make food look amazing on photos.

I work with food brands including growers, producers, distributors, wine makers, caterers, chefs and food venues helping them with visual content for their socials, website, collateral and more.

My style is more minimalistic, bright and light, however I also like occasional dark and moody shot.

“Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s nourishment of the soul and body: it’s truly love.
